Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how EVEC Kocani (European Voluntary and Educational Center Kocani) uses cookies and similar technologies on evec.org.mk. It tells you what these technologies are, why we use them, and the choices you have to accept or refuse them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information. Some technologies we use are not strictly “cookies” but work in a similar way (for example, browser storage and tags used by third-party services); for simplicity we refer to all of them as “cookies” in this policy.

Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called “first-party” cookies. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third-party” cookies; these enable third-party features or functionality (such as analytics, push notifications and embedded content) to be provided.

Cookies and services we use

Below is a description of the categories of cookies and services actually used on this website — nothing more, nothing hypothetical.

Strictly necessary

These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as submitting a form, logging in or choosing a language. The website cannot work properly without them.

WordPress — session and security cookies that keep logged-in users authenticated. If you are simply reading the site and never log in, WordPress sets none of them. An ordinary visit is not cookie-free, though: the language cookie below is always written, and for visitors outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — North Macedonia included — Google Analytics can write its two cookies as well, as described under Analytics below. OneSignal stores items on your device from your first visit too, though those are browser storage rather than cookies.
Language preference — the multilingual plugin Polylang is active on this site, so a first-party cookie named pll_language is written on every page you open. It lasts one year. It records which language version you are viewing: en on the English pages, mk on the Macedonian pages at /mk/. It is used for nothing else — it does not track you — and it is set today, not at some future point, as you can confirm in your own browser.

Analytics

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the website by collecting and reporting information in aggregate.

Google Analytics 4 (via Site Kit by Google) — measurement ID G-HSZL7LFNG5. It records which pages are viewed, how far down a page you scroll, and how long visits last. The measurement code runs as the page loads, before you are asked anything, and sends Google your IP address, the address and title of the page, your browser and screen characteristics, and a generated visitor identifier.
Google consent mode — Site Kit sets Google’s consent signal to denied by default for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. For those visitors Analytics runs without storing anything on the device: no _ga cookie is written. That default does not cover visitors elsewhere, including North Macedonia, so for them Analytics can store its usual _ga and _ga_HSZL7LFNG5 cookies, which tell one visitor from another for up to two years. Either way, the measurement data is still sent.

Push notifications

These power an optional feature you can switch on if you want news from us delivered straight to your browser.

OneSignal — provides web-push notifications. Notifications are strictly opt-in: nothing is ever sent unless you click “Allow” in your browser’s own permission prompt, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in your browser settings. If you subscribe, a subscription identifier for your browser is stored so notifications can reach you; it is not linked to your name or e-mail address.
OneSignal, whether or not you subscribe — the OneSignal script stores things on your device from your first visit, even if you never allow notifications. It keeps a page-view counter in your browser’s local storage (os_pageViews) and in its session storage (onesignal-pageview-count), a note that you have not given consent (userConsent), and a database named ONE_SIGNAL_SDK_DB. None of these are cookies, but they sit on your device in the same way and you can clear them in the same way.

Third-party requests that happen as the page loads

Some things are requested while the page renders, before you make any choice, which means your IP address reaches the provider even if you never use the feature. We would rather say so plainly than describe an intention we have not carried out.

OneSignal — the push-notification script loads from cdn.onesignal.com with the page, and then calls api.onesignal.com, so OneSignal’s servers learn your IP address even if you never subscribe to notifications.
Google Analytics — the measurement code connected through Site Kit loads from googletagmanager.com with the page and begins sending measurement data to Google immediately, as described above.
Google Fonts — the typefaces this site is set in are not served from our own server. Every page requests one stylesheet from fonts.googleapis.com and then three font files from fonts.gstatic.com. This happens on every page view, for every visitor, before any choice is offered, so your IP address and the address of the page you are reading reach Google whether or not you ever do anything else on the site.

How you control cookies

We will be straightforward about where we stand. This site does not currently show a cookie consent banner. We intend to add one, so that analytics waits for your agreement before running, and this page will be updated when it arrives. Until then, this page is the honest record of what runs, and these are the controls you have today:

Your browser. Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies, for one site or for all sites. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect how the website works.
Google Analytics. Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every website, including this one. Google’s handling of the related data is described in its own privacy policy.
Push notifications. If you allowed notifications and change your mind, withdraw the permission in your browser’s site settings and the subscription stops working.
Site data that is not a cookie. The OneSignal items listed above are held as browser storage and an on-device database rather than as cookies. Clearing “cookies and site data” for evec.org.mk in your browser removes them along with the cookies.
