Our commitment

We want everyone to be able to use evec.org.mk, including disabled people and anyone who uses a screen reader, keyboard, magnifier or other assistive technology. Accessibility is close to our work, not an add-on to it: our organisation has worked with and for people with disabilities for years, so a website that shuts anyone out would contradict what we do.

Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We treat accessibility as part of how we build and maintain the site, not as an afterthought.

What we have done

To make the site easier to use for as many people as possible, we have built it with the following in mind:

  • Semantic headings and landmarks, so the page structure makes sense to screen readers.
  • Visible keyboard focus outlines, so you can always see where you are on the page.
  • Respect for your browser’s “reduce motion” setting, so animations calm down if you ask them to.
  • Descriptive alternative text on images that carry meaning.
  • Colour contrast that meets AA, on light and dark surfaces alike.
  • Pages that are fully keyboard-operable, without needing a mouse.
  • A layout that reflows down to small screens without losing content.
  • Where we show country flags, the country name always appears alongside — never colour or a flag alone.

Known limitations

We are honest about where the site falls short:

  • Form controls are too small to tap comfortably. The recommended minimum size for a touch target is 44 × 44 pixels. Measured on 19 August 2026, ours fall short: the radio button is 13px, the consent checkbox 18px, the dropdowns about 38px, the text inputs 40px, and the submit button 40px on three pages. That makes our forms harder to tap accurately on a phone, especially if you have a tremor or limited fine motor control.
  • The logo has no real alternative text. The logo at the top of every page is a background image on an otherwise empty link. We give that link an accessible name with JavaScript, so a screen reader announces it as “EVEC Kocani — home”. With JavaScript turned off it is announced only as “link”. The permanent fix is a real image with alternative text, and we intend to make it.
  • The translation is not finished. The site is published in Macedonian and in English, but the Macedonian translation does not yet cover every page, so some content exists for now only in English.

We are working to improve these where we can.

Conformance status

We consider evec.org.mk partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. Most of the site conforms, with the exceptions noted in the section above. “Partially conformant” means that some content does not yet fully meet the standard.

How we test

We check the site ourselves as we build and update it. Our testing includes keyboard navigation, browser zoom and colour-contrast checks, along with a review of pages against the guidelines.

This is our own ongoing testing. We have not commissioned a formal third-party audit or certificate.

Tell us about a problem

If you hit a barrier on the site, or you need information from us in another format, please let us know. E-mail contact@evec.org.mk or call +389 78 275 770, and tell us what you were trying to do.

We reply within 3 working days, and we will provide what you need in an accessible way.
